Meet Sarafina — the Keeper of the Good.

In just a few minutes each night, you’ll create a connection with your child —helping them feel seen, loved, and secure in who they are. For parents who love the magic of Christmas, but not the “naughty list” pressure. In those small moments,  Sarafina helps you:

  • notice the good,

  • build quiet confidence

  • create a ritual your child looks forward to.

Sometimes she likes to hide, wanting the kids to come and find her. Sometimes she is just waiting for them when they come home from school. And every day, she quietly notices one good thing they did — a kind word, a moment of courage, something small and true — and sends it to Santa.

Research in developmental psychology is consistent: children praised for who they are — rather than threatened for what they might do wrong — build stronger character, deeper confidence, and healthier emotional lives. Fear can change behavior in the short term. Love changes it for a lifetime.

Parents today are carrying a lot.  Screens beckon insistently. The news is relentless. And somewhere in the middle of all that noise, the quiet moments with a child — the ones that actually last — can slip right by.

Sarafina is a small act of intentional connection-Not another thing to do. An invitation to slow down, notice your child, and tell them what you see.

Join Sarafina’s list for one short positive parenting idea each week and an exclusive first look at a kinder and more positive alternative to Elf on the Shelf.

“She’s not watching for mistakes. She’s watching for magic.”

You know the feeling.

The elf that watches.
The list that threatens.
The quiet anxiety when a child wonders if they’ve been “good enough to stay off the naughty list”.

Sarafina keeps a different kind of score.

Each night in December, she finds a new hiding place — ears up, notebook ready — quietly noticing the good.

  • The shared toy

  • The unprompted hug

  • The “I’m sorry” that took courage

The moments children think no one sees. The unsung good deeds, that matter the very most.

Each night, she sends those moments to Santa.

Because Santa already knows your child is good.
He just needs someone to remind him of the details.

BTW, Sarafina likes to be found, but she LOVES to be held. No worries about playing with this Christmas companion.

A cat sits on the windowsill outside in the snow, and Christmas lights are hanging from the ceiling. There is a Christmas tree, a bookshelf, a television, and a clock on the wall.

Where Sarafina came from…

Thirteen years ago, a grandfather picked up his grandchildren after a Christmas visit. Their parents had recently separated, and he had quietly become the warm bridge between two worlds. That night the kids mentioned a popular elf at one of their parents' houses — and how relieved they were to be leaving it behind. Relieved not to be watched. Not to be judged. Not to be reported on.

That relief broke his heart a little. And gave him an idea.

That night, he stopped at a store, bought a small decorative mouse, and told them a different story.

A story about Sarafina — the Keeper of the Good.

A gentle presence.

A quiet witness to kindness.

A reminder that goodness doesn’t need an audience.

His grandchildren are teenagers now.

She still comes out every Christmas.

Peter, the grandpa and founder of A Mouse in the House, spent his career building tools to help people learn and grow.
After facing a serious illness that clarified what truly matters, finishing this became the thing he most wanted to do.

A Mouse in the House is for every child who needs someone in their corner—
even on the days they don’t feel their best.

I've spent a long time thinking about how children develop — how the stories we tell them, the traditions we build around them, and the way we pay attention to them shapes who they become. And I knew one thing clearly: a child who's afraid of being caught doing wrong is learning something very different from a child who's noticed for doing good. So I made Sarafina. -Peter

Sarafina is a small kindness mouse who comes to visit during December. She doesn't report to the naughty list. She doesn't watch for mistakes.

She watches for magic — the small, true moments of kindness, courage, and goodness that children do every single day that often go unnoticed.

She arrives with a story, a daily activity and 24 days of invitations to be good — not because someone's watching, but because that's who your child already is.
